Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Fred Rogers is a rare presence on TV, he was charmingly easy-going and yet so incisive in expressing his deep ideals. Interviews with his relatives and coworkers reveal the story of a would-be pastor who felt a greater calling than to be a pastor. It was his iconic series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (1968), which allowed him to gently explore important topics no other children’s program could. Rogers’ sweet-tempered ideallism and charm captivated the entire world, whether it was scores of kids watching him on television or the recalcitrant government officials. Rogers had deep self doubts and misjudgments, but he was a beloved character who hid his inner demons. –Kenneth Chisholm ([email protected])
