The Christmas Contract

Jolie Guidry is a web designer and moved to New York City six month ago after her relationship with Foster Broussard ended. Jolie hates returning home for Christmas because she is sure she will meet Foster, who will be there with Amy, her new girlfriend. Jolie is not the only one who feels the Guidry/Broussard connection. Foster’s father Tim Guidry and Rocky Broussard organized the original Lafayette Christmas Market, which has grown into a popular annual event. The two will be recognized in a civic ceremony. Jolie is not ready to deal with Foster’s drama as she is a single woman. Naomi, Naomi’s best friend and lawyer suggests that Jolie bring her fake boyfriend to Lafayette for the holidays. Naomi brings Jack Friedman, her elder brother and writer, to the table. Jack and Naomi are good friends and Jack is able to spend the holiday with Martin, her husband, and their children. Problem? The problem? Jack and Jolie have been in a difficult relationship since Jack cancelled a date set up by Naomi when Jolie returned home to Chicago. Jolie isn’t a fan of Jack, but Jack has no plans to do this for Jolie. Jack and Jolie eventually agree to a binding agreement. Jolie and Naomi are unaware that Jack agreed to the contract because his latest assignment in ghostwriting was supposed to take place in Louisiana. Jack’s problem is even worse. He is writing a romance novel, and he is not familiar with the process. Devon, his editor suggests that he draws from the real world to experience many of these “plot points.” The two of them begin to feel a deep connection, even if they are only pretending to be friends in order to convince Foster and her family that Jack is her boyfriend. Jolie might have to decide between Foster or Jack, if Foster is being jealous of Jolie’s plot. Jolie may be able to tip the balance if she discovers Jack’s nature. –Huggo
