Emperor
In the midst of all the uncertainties and tensions that followed the Japanese surrender at end of World War II, a story of love and understanding was told. General Douglas MacArthur (Jones), Japan’s Supreme Commander of Occupying Forces, is the man on whose staff General Bonner Fellers Fox (Fox), is charged with making a historic decision: Should Emperor Hirohito face trial and be executed as a war criminal. Fellers and Aya are interwoven as is Fellers’ story of a love affair. He had been a Japanese exchange student years before in the U.S. These memories and Fellers’ quest to locate her in the post-war wreckage help Fellers discover his wisdom and humanity, and allow him to make the pivotal decision that would change the course of both history and the future for two countries. –Production
