Sound of Metal
Ruben is a metal drummer who has lived for the present for four years, keeping his inner demons at bay by dedicating himself to art. Then, while on tour with his lead-singer/girlfriend, Lou, Ruben realises that his hearing is rapidly deteriorating. Ruben is shocked by his sudden loss of hearing and begins to feel numbing fear mixed with anger. He reluctantly agrees to be part of a deaf community that Joe oversees, who is a Vietnam War vet. Ruben must now find solid ground and understand that his hearing loss is not an inalienable handicap. Is Ruben ready to adjust to his new reality and to learn to be deaf? –Nick Riganas
