Magnolia

It’s been 24 hours since I left L.A., and it is raining cats & dogs. The story of two men dying is intercut. Both are separated from their grown children and both desire to be in contact with them. Earl Partridge’s young son is charismatic and misogynist, while Jimmy Gator is an alcoholic waif. The son is reached by a gentle and compassionate nurse who intercedes on Earl’s behalf. A prayerful, upright beat cop then meets his daughter and falls in love with her. This leads to a sense of calm and peace. Earl’s wife is consumed by guilt, and her two young children, one lost and the other pressured and young, are forced to face their circumstances. Weather is also quirky. —
