Kingdom of Heaven

This is the Middle Ages, the 200-year-long collision of Europe and Asia that has shaped the modern world. Balian, a blacksmith has lost both his family members and his faith. He doesn’t see the religious conflicts raging in distant Holy Land, but he finds himself drawn into this immense drama. He falls for a woman, becomes a leader and defends Jerusalem against all odds. Godfrey, a Crusader who returned briefly to France after fighting in East, comes looking for Balian. Godfrey, who claims to be Balian’s father and leads him across continents to find the holy city. At that time, Jerusalem is still in turmoil between the Third and Second Crusades. However, there’s a fragile peace thanks to the help of Baldwin IV (Christian enlightened king), and Tiberias (military restraint by the famous Muslim leader Saladin Ayubi). Baldwin is not going to live long and the Crusaders are facing jealousy, fanaticism and greed that threaten the truce. A handful of knights including Godfrey, of Ibelin and King Baldwin share his vision of peace, a kingdom of Heaven. They swear to protect it with all their hearts. Godfrey gives his sword to his son and also takes the sacred oath to uphold the sacred oath to: To protect the weak, to preserve peace and to work towards harmony among religions and cultures so that there is a kingdom in heaven. Balian grabs the sword and enters history. Sujit R.Varma
