West Side Story
West Side Story, the award-winning version of “Romeo and Juliet” is an adaptation. Two rival New York City gangs emerge from the feuding families: Riff’s white Jets and Bernardo’s Latino Sharks. They become so bitter that neither side can live with each other without understanding. Riff’s friend and ex-Jet, Tony, meets Bernardo’s younger sister Maria at a party. No one can stop them from falling in love. Maria and Tony start meeting secretly, with the intention of running away. Next, the Sharks and Jets organize a brawl under the highway. The winner takes control of the streets. Maria asks Tony for help to end it. The violence escalates and tragedy hits before both lovers realize what has happened. –Anonymous
