The Thin Blue Line

The unique documentary by Errol Morris reenacts and investigates the Dallas crime scene. A drifter named Randall Adams ran out gas, and was picked by David Harris (16 years old). They went to see the movie, had a few beers, and smoked marijuana later that evening. Their stories soon diverged. Adams said that he went to his motel where he was with his brother and then went to bed. Harris claimed that Adams shot Harris when he saw the police officer coming towards their vehicle late at night. This film depicts the evidence that was gathered by police officers who had to prove their innocence. The film strongly demonstrates that circumstantial evidence is very weak. It turns out that Harris is a more probable suspect. He was involved in a criminal spree and ended up being sent to Death Row for his later crimes. Morris suggests that Adams was made scapegoat by the judge and the DA in order to get the death penalty for this crime (for which Harris wouldn’t have been eligible because of his youth). –Tad Dibbern
