The Texture of Falling

The Texture of Falling is a film that combines pop surrealism with satirical comedy. This film transcends genres and is not easily classified. The story follows Louisa (Julie Webb), who is a filmmaker in recovery from her recent career dejection. She meets Luke (Patrick Green), an artist going through his own creative crisis. Louisa falls in love with Luke despite her long-term affair with Ati (Donny Personnes). Louisa begins to fall for Luke and her doubts about romantic love begin to crumble as she gives in to her passions. As Louisa and Luke begin to fall in love, another story unfolds. Michael (Benjamin Farmer), an architect who is not at home with his wife, falls for Sylvia (an enigmatic artist). These parallels are just a coincidence. Soon Sylvia and Michael embark on an unsavory journey of pain and pleasure. Who is Sylvia, though? Michael realizes that his lust is growing and he must choose the unattainable. The Texture of Falling shows that nothing is as it appears. The film defies expectations from its first shot through to its dramatic climax. Marking the audacious, unforgettable debut of its writer-director-actor, Maria Allred, it is a visual tour-de-force. This film asks the question, “What is real?” and “What is artifice?” What is the difference between fantasies and passions? William Boyd
