The Manual
James, the last living human being on Earth in the far future is The Machine. A humanoid robot named the Machine raises him and protects him. The Machine then introduces James to a bizarre composite religion through a small handheld device known as The Manual. Teachings of The Manual combine elements from old world religions and include robots as spiritual beings after death, just like humans. As he struggles with depression and loneliness, he finds it more difficult to find other people. He begins to doubt his belief in The Manual and sets out to prove one of its core beliefs, the reincarnation to the next existence in the city God created.
