The Machinist

Trevor Reznik works as a machine operator in a factory. He has a severe case of insomnia that led him to not sleep for over a year and to his body deteriorating to almost nothing. His obsession with writing reminder notes to himself and keeping track of his shrinking weight is what drives him crazy. He keeps these two things jotted on yellow sticky stickers in his apartment. He doesn’t allow Stevie into his emotional life. However, Stevie is a prostitute. Maria, an unmarried mother waitress at an airport diner, is the only one he allows to enter. Because he doesn’t know what is happening in his life, his coworkers are unable to trust him and don’t like him. Trevor feels alienated by a workplace incident. He also believes someone is out to get Trevor using an unknown employee, Ivan, as their front. Trevor will begin to unravel the mystery behind Trevor’s insomnia as he searches for clues about Ivan and his whereabouts. –Huggo
