The Invisible Woman (2013)

Nelly Ternan, played by Felicity Jones in the 1850s is an actress with minimal talent who attracts the attention of Charles Dickens (Ralph Fiennes) a well-known British writer. Charles becomes bored with Catherine, his intellectually unmotivated wife. With the help of Mrs. Frances Ternan (Dame Kristin Scanlan), Charles makes Nelly his mistress. The rest of the story is about a turbulent relationship that Nelly has with Charles, a literary titan who gives her a life only a few other women can have. Charles’ cruelty to her emotions and insistence on keeping it secret make Nelly equally upset. Nelly has to evaluate her role and determine if it is worth the sacrifices she makes. –Kenneth Chisholm ([email protected])
