The Great Dictator
Twenty years after WWI ended, the nation of Tomainia lost. Adenoid Hynkel, the brutal dictator of the country, has come to power. Adenoid Hynkel believes in the destruction of Jews and a pure Aryan nation. A simple Jewish Tomainian barber, who was hospitalized after a WWI war battle, is not aware of this situation. The barber is released from hospital after suffering memory loss. He sees the persecuted Jewish life through the eyes of many Jews living in the Jewish Ghetto. This includes Hannah, a washerwoman with whom he starts a romantic relationship. This barber, who he helped to save in the WWI battle of Tomainia, is finally spared from such persecutement by Commander Schultz. All Jews of Tomainia’s Tomainia are saved by a policy change made by Hynkel, who has ulterior motives. These motives also include a desire to dominate the world, beginning with Osterlich’s invasion. This may be under threat by Benzino Napaoni, the ruler of nearby Bacteria. Schultz has become a traitor to Hynkel’s government and may join the barber to control the situation. Schultz is an insider with the workings of Hynkel’s system and the barber bears a striking resemblance. –Huggo
