The Games of the V Olympiad Stockholm, 1912

The surviving footage from the Olympic Games in Stockholm 1912 was created by one production company Svensk-Amerikanska Filmkompaniet. These images were often misunderstood, and therefore, are being misused as historical documents. A scene-by-scene analysis was done using historical records. This allowed the production to create a chronology of the images which would tell the story about these Olympic Games. Chris Rodmell, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging in Burbank, CA, scanned the footage and created a chronological record that includes events over 100 years ago. We can now contextualize images by adding intertitles and text. Donald Sosin provides a musical accompaniment for Criterion Blu Ray edition. This adds another dimension to an image that is truly a testament to both the technical excellence of original material and the talent of those who took it. –AJW
