Matt King is part of a long line that has been living in Hawaii for many generations. He and many of his cousins own the Kauai land, which is undeveloped. The trust ends after seven years. It is easiest for his family to sell the land before seven years are up. This is the most talked about topic in the state. The sale to anyone could change Kauai’s face. Matt decided that despite the wealth of the land Matt will live on the salary he makes as a Honolulu attorney. Matt is not as happy living in Hawaiian paradise. His marriage to Elizabeth was not going well. Recently, she was in an accident while boating which left her permanently incapacitated. Since Alex, their seventeen-year old daughter, was unable to control her rebelliousness during Alex’s last home visit, they sent Alex to boarding school. Their ten-year old daughter Scottie has started to behave out. Matt isn’t sure if Matt can manage it, and he may have to raise her by himself. Matt brings Alex home after learning that Elizabeth has died and will need to be taken off of life support. Matt makes some difficult decisions about how to grieve Elizabeth’s passing and deal with the land issue. –Huggo
