Superman: Unbound

Lois Lane offers herself as hostage and is captured in an air battle between terrorist captors, Supergirl, and Superman. Superman saves the day. Lois, who soon learns Superman’s civilian identity from Superman, attempts to convince Clark Kent that their relationship is public. However, their arguments are stopped by the Daily Planet staff before Kent departs when Kent was alerted of a meteor. Superman intercepts it and discovers that the meteor is a robot. He defeats it quickly and then activates its beacon to take it to the Fortress of Solitude. Superman discovers that the robot was actually controlled by Brainiac. This cyborg, who is originally a Coluan scientist, has been subject to numerous cybernetic enhancements and genetic manipulations. Superman helps her through this fearful encounter. Supergirl discovers that Brainiac took control of Kandor, Krypton’s capital. This was before the destruction. Her father and mother tried to find him but lost communication with Krypton. Superman flew across the galaxy to find Brainiac and his drones before he was stopped by them. Superman fails to stop Brainiac’s drones from attacking a planet’s capital. He witnessed Kandor and Brainiac do the same with Kandor. Then, he fired a Solar Aggressor missile at the sun to destroy the planet. Superman is knocked unconscious by the explosion and brought to Brainiac’s ship. He fights his way through the vessel and discovers that there are a number of cities in a sealed room before Brainiac attacks him. Brainiac confirms that Krypton was spared due to its destruction and reveals that he had been gathering information about all planets before they were destroyed. Brainiac uses Superman’s spacecraft to map a route to Earth and send Superman to Kandor. Superman finds his aunt Alura and uncle Zor El in Kandor as his strength is waning under the artificial sun. Superman spends time with the two of them and devises a plan to escape Kandor by using subjugator robots. Superman then disables Brainiac’s ship, and sends Kandor back to Earth. Lois discovers why Superman has left. She alerts the Pentagon about a potential invasion by Brainiac. He eventually repairs his ship and returns to Metropolis. Supergirl and Superman are both captured, despite everyone trying to fight his drones. Brainiac manipulates Superman in order to get Kandor. After hooking Superman up with his ship and revealing that Earth is nothing to him. Superman tells his captor about Earth and breaks free. Superman then convinces Supergirl to help stop the Solar Aggressor hitting the sun. Superman remembers Zor-El’s words regarding Brainiac’s ideals and knocks Brainiac out of his ship. They crash into a swamp. Superman makes Braniac experience life outside the safe and secure environment he has created. Brainiac eventually succumbs to the combination of mental and physical strain and explodes. Superman proposes to Lois Kent, his relationship with Lois and Kent after restoring Metropolis. Brainiac’s remains, however, are active even though they have been placed in the Fortress of Solitude. –Lord_Kratos
