Sorry to Bother You
Cassius Green, a black man who sells to a majority of white people by phone, takes a job as a telemarketer in an alternative Oakland. He is encouraged by a veteran to speak in his white voice and to have a positive attitude to appeal to more customers. Cassius is a strangely high-pitched voice that makes him a hit even though his coworkers form a union in an effort to make their jobs better. Cassius is promoted to “Power Caller”, selling some of the most sinister, but profitable products and services. His connection with his girlfriend and coworkers fades. Cassius is forced to confront his conscience again when he discovers himself trapped in his boss’s bizarre world of bigoted degeneracy and sinister plans for creating the perfect subservient workforce with Cassius. –Kenneth Chisholm ([email protected])
