Popeye
Popeye is a bright-eyed, corn pipe-smoking, spinach-hating, grumbling, and squinty-eyed sailor who arrived just in Sweethaven. His overly strong forearms are partly a result of genetics. Popeye has been sailing across the seven oceans to find his father, who left him at two years old. Wimpy is the only exception to this suspicion. He will make friends with any person who buys him a hamburger. Olive Oyl (the lanky and work-boots wearing daughter of his landlords) is one who views him suspiciously. Popeye and Olive fell in love due to their changing circumstances, which included the discovery of an infant boy named Swee’pea by Popeye in memory of Sweethaven. They decide to raise him. Olive then leaves Bluto who she was planning to marry, who is the town bully and rules Sweethaven for the mysterious Commodore. Bluto doesn’t take the new situation lightly and uses Swee’pea to get Olive Oyl back. The discovery about his father’s death has a significant impact on the outcome of this fight between Popeye and Olive Oyl for Sweepea. –Huggo
