Matthew Morgan, an American retired professor and widower in his eighties is known as Matthew Morgan. He lives in Paris, and speaks little French. He is now marking his time since the death of his wife. Pauline Laubie (half his age), a dance teacher, sparks his curiosity. Although she is a lonely person, she longs for the closeness of her family. Matthew is her friend, so she visits him in hospital. His two grown children, who are visiting from the U.S., arrive to visit their father. They believe Pauline is a diamond digger and they’re confused by the separation between the father and the children. The son is left behind, while the daughter goes home.
