Lunar Industries has awarded Sam Bell a 3-year contract. He is their sole employee at the lunar station for the duration of the contract. He is responsible for bringing back to Earth helium-3 supplies, which are the most abundant and clean fuel available on Earth. His only real-time contact is via GERTY. This intelligent computer is responsible for his daily needs. There’s no communication between Earth and the lunar station. He feels three years of being isolated and with so little contact from humans, it is too much. As the three-year mark approaches, he begins to experience hallucinations. He wants to go home to Tess, his wife and their baby daughter Eve. Eve was born shortly before he left for his job. He is unconscious after an accident with one of the mechanical harvesters. He is injured and he wakes up at the station. Infirmary staff assist him. GERTY informs him that Eliza, a rescue crew from Eliza, will be coming to the station to help clean up after the accident. He decides to take an uninvited trip back to the damaged harvester after his recovery. There he discovers an amazing discovery. He begins to question his sanity and then his identity. Then he questions GERTY’s commitment to doing what is right for him. His sole purpose is to find a way to return to Earth alone because of these beliefs. –Huggo
