Mirage (2018)

Nico, a twelve-year-old boy who is passionate about recording himself playing his guitar and videotaping it on November 9, 1989 was the day that Berlin’s Wall fell. Maria is his sole mother. Nico looks through the window of his bedroom and sees a violent scene at the home of Angel Prieto, his neighbor. He enters the house to find Hilda Weiss (Prieto’s wife), lying in her grave. He runs scared away from Prieto who discovers him at his house. Nico then gets run over and is killed by a car. Vera Roy, now a twenty-five year old woman, was killed in a car accident on Nov. 9, 2014. They invite Aitor Medina, her ex-boyfriend, and Clara, his mother, to celebrate their move into their suburban house. Vera discovers that David and Vera were living together in Nico’s home and that Angel Prieto committed suicide three months later. Vera finds the original analog TV set, along with the camera equipment that Nico used the night the 72-hours storm started. Vera turns on the TV and the storm links the devices. Vera warns Nico about his imminent death and talks with him. After the conversation Vera awakens in hospital on a parallel timeline. She realizes she is not a nurse, but a doctor who is taking a sick leave to care for a deceased patient. Vera is also confused that her daughter Gloria is no more; David has married Ursula, David was never her boyfriend, and Prieto remains alive, happily married to Clara Medina. Vera’s memories are constantly connecting to both timelines, so Inspector Leyra meets her in an effort to verify her story. Leyra refuses to believe her. Together, they embark on an investigation to find clues and evidence to help uncover the truth. There are only a few more hours before the storm overtakes and time is running out. Vera believes that Nico Lasarte is the answer to her time puzzle. She also presides over the trial of Hilda Weiss. Vera tries to find Gloria and to get Prieto to talk with Nico. Is it one of the two parallel lives she is living? Does her past life just seem like a lie? Vera will be able find a solution before the storm passes. –Chockys
