Mindhorn
Richard Thorncroft, an actor on British TV who is now a failure, was once a popular character from the Isle of Man Detective Show Mindhorn. He played a charismatic character that could “see the truth” and had a robot eye. Richard becomes pompous and arrogant and insults the Isle of Man, his co-stars on the Wogan chat show, and even his real love, Patricia Deville (Essie Davis), as well as Simon Farnaby (Steve Coogan), and Peter Easterman (bit-part). To his dismay, he decides to go to Hollywood to make it big. However, twenty-five years later, he is balding in North London after being replaced by John Nettles for an Orthopaedic Sock Advert. Even more jealous is the fact that Easterman has a spin-off television show, which far surpasses Mindhorn’s success. Richard is offered an opportunity to revive his career when “The Kestrel”, a deluded criminal calling himself Russell Tovey, begins terrorizing the Isle of Man. He has a very unhealthy obsession with Mindhorn and demands that he only talk to him. Richard, desperate for some publicity, dons his robot eye and turtleneck, aggravating the police, and attempting to revive his relationship with Patricia. He also tries to get a Mindhorn DVD contract with Eastman. Mindhorn will bring justice to the world with his 80s political inaccuracy, solo music single, useless cyborg eyespatch and silly one-liners. It is truth time. –Edward Hunter
