Menashe

Menashe is a widower who lives in Brooklyn’s Hasidic community. He has worked hard since his wife died a year ago to get custody of Rieven, his nine-year old son. The rabbi and all his community back him won’t hear about it, as Menashe doesn’t want to remarry, after his unhappy first marriage. Although father and son are able to get along, Menashe must take proper care of Rieven. He is not really there for his kindness, as he works as a supermarket clerk. This takes too much effort and his energy. He is always late and in a rush, but he strives to be better. Will his efforts prove enough for the Rabbi to accept that he is a father, even if he doesn’t have a wife? –Guy Bellinger
