Just Mercy

The powerful, thought-provoking true story of Bryan Stevenson (Jordan), a young lawyer who fights for justice in a historic battle. Bryan could have chosen a lucrative job after he graduated from Harvard. With the help of Eva Ansley (Larson), he decides to go to Alabama instead to fight for those wrongly sentenced. Walter McMillian (Foxx) was his first and most controversial case. He was sentenced in 1987 to death for the murder of an 18 year-old girl. There were overwhelming evidence supporting his innocence, but the sole testimony against him came form a criminal who had a motive to lie. Bryan is involved in legal and political maneuverings, overt racism, and other shaming tactics as he defends Walter and those like him. –Gregg Brilliant
