In the Heat of the Night

After the death of a well-known businessman, Detective Virgil Tibbs finds himself caught in the racial tensions of the US South. Tibbs had been waiting at Sparta’s next train station, Mississippi. The confusion quickly passes. However, when Gillespie, the local police chief, discovers that Tibbs, Philadelphia PD’s top homicide expert and is reluctant to help, he asks him for his help. Colbert was a murdered man who came to Sparta to set up a factory. His wife, business partners, and other family members immediately pointed the finger at Endicott as the most powerful person in the county, and also the man with the greatest potential to lose, if there is a significant new employer.
