In Absentia
One woman is sitting alone at a desk in an area on the second floor of an asylum. The night is filled with bright spot lights, which sometimes shine on the window. She sharpens her pencils, and then writes on the page of a book. Her fingers often break the pencil points. Broken pencil points are placed outside of the window, on the sill. An animating satanic figure, made of clay or straw, is nearby. After finishing her work, she tears off the paper, unfolds the sheet, then folds the folded piece, puts it in an envelope and inserts the slot. Does she want to write her husband? “Sweetheart, come.” —
