Deepwater Horizon

There is currently no other oil exploration operation in the Gulf of Mexico that can compare to the Deepwater Horizon’s size and depth of drilling. The BP project is facing technical problems to the extent that Jimmy Harrell (general operational supervisor) and Mike Williams (chief electrical engineer), are worried about potential danger. On the other hand, visiting BP executives became frustrated at the long delays in the project and ordered site inspections to be shortened and slanted systems tests to compensate. Harrell, Williams, and their team protest the safety of the workers. The workers realize their fears on April 20 when the system and structural flaws of the rig spark an explosion and a chain reaction that will lead to a major blowout that could threaten them all. This would also be the beginning of the most devastating environmental catastrophe in American history. –Kenneth Chisholm ([email protected])
