The story of CAROL, a reimagining of Patricia Highsmith’s classic novel The Price of Salt is about two women who come from different backgrounds and fall in love in New York in the 1950s. A story that exposes the strength of the human heart against the odds is revealed as they struggle to accept the limitations of their attraction. Therese, a young woman in her 20s who works in Manhattan’s department store clerk, dreams of a better life. She meets Carol (Cate Blanchett), a beautiful woman stuck in a convenient, loveless marriage. Their connection grows stronger and the innocent spark of their first meeting fades. Carol is freed from marriage confines by Kyle Chandler, but her husband begins to doubt her ability to be a mother after her involvement with Therese (Sarah Paulson), and her close relationship with Abby (Sarah Paulson). –The Weinstein Company
