Captain Phillips is an in-depth look at the hijacking by Somali pirates of the U.S. Container Ship Maersk Alabama in 2009. Through Paul Greengrass’s unique lens, it is simultaneously a thrilling thriller and complex portrayal of the many effects of globalization. This film is about the love story between Captain Richard Phillips, Alabama’s commanding officers, and Muse, the Somali pirate captain (Barkhad Absdi), who take him hostage.
