Boyz n the Hood
John Singleton, writer and director of the film portrays inner-city Los Angeles’ social problems through the eyes of three childhood friends. Doughboy (Ice Cube), and Ricky Baker, (Morris Chestnut), are half-brothers who present very different perspectives on the difficult lives they live. Ricky, the “All-American” football athlete is looking for a scholarship to USC. He also seeks redemption through sports. Doughboy, on the other hand, succumbs the violence, alcohol and crime around him, but maintains his sense of pride. Tre Styles, Jr., their friend, is between them. Furious Styles, Laurence Fishburne, is his father. He teaches him the character strength to stand up for what is right, and how to take full responsibility. –Tad Dibbern
