Big Fish

Will Bloom (United Press International journalist) and Josephine Bloom (freelance French photojournalist), leave Paris to go back to Ashton, Alabama to find out that Edward Bloom has died from cancer. He is being removed from chemotherapy. Although Will and Josephine were married in the same year, he has lived apart from Edward for three years. Will is irritated by Edward’s fanciful stories about his childhood that he has shared with Will and the rest of the world. Will was an infant when Edward was absent from his duties as a travel salesman. He believed these stories as a kid. But now he realizes that Edward does not know him and will continue to share the stories with Will until he is dead. Will is on the verge of starting his own family, and he doesn’t want to become the father Edward was to him. Edward told a story about his childhood that showed him seeing death through the eyes of witches. This led him to embrace life, knowing that death would come eventually. Will is now attempting to find a way to reconcile Edward’s tales with his actual life. Will may be able do this either from Edward himself before his death or from others. This will allow him to gain a better understanding of his past and present. –Huggo
