Being the Ricardos

Lucy Ball gets her contract to RKO Pictures in 1939. Although she is given small roles in large studio productions, her main role was in films with low budget. Desi Arnaz, a charismatic Cuban singer aged 22, is her film star. They instantly fall in love. They marry months after the filming and purchase a house in Hollywood. Desi is a star in the Desi Arnaz Orchestra, which tours the nation. Lucy is still a struggling actress. She is offered a role on the radio program “My Favorite Husband” in 1948. It becomes a huge success. Although Philip Morris and CBS are interested in the show, Ball insists that Desi play her husband on-screen. The show’s name is changed to “I Love Lucy” in 1953 and it becomes a huge hit, with 60 million viewers every week. A newspaper article describes Lucy as a communist on the night of live filming. Lucy admits, but Desi refuses to believe the lie. Their marriage and careers could be in jeopardy. –Wiki
