Ballet 422 records the creation of Justin Peck (a 26-year-old choreographer) who was hired in 2013 to create a new dance for the New York City Ballet’s winter season. New York City Ballet has been ranked as one of the top companies worldwide. His Ballet Master in Chief, Peter Martins has been leading him since 1990. This documentary focuses on the backstage activities that take place while creating and learning the new ballet, “Paz de la Jolla”. Peck works with fellow dancers. Justin Peck also performs solo at NYCB. Peck worked with his fellow dancers, musicians, costume designers, and lighting technicians to create a new piece for NYCB. This is the third work he has created. This is the first public appearance of the New York City Ballet during the creation of a brand new ballet. –bobbuckingham
