Desperado

Robert Rodriguez continues his independent film El Mariachi’s success with the slam-bang South of the Border adventure. Bucho (Joaquim deAlmeida), a drug kingpin and wealthy, but not necessarily bloodthirsty, rules over a seedy Mexican border city. Bucho (Joaquim DeAlmeida) and his men are guilty of inflicting pain on El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), an ex-musician who carries dozens of weapons in his guitar bag. Bucho shot El Mariachi in the hand with a gunshot, causing him to be unable play his guitar. Bent on revenge, the musician-turned-killing machine arrives in town to put Bucho out of business, though he finds few allies except for Carolina (Salma Hayek), who runs a bookstore that doesn’t seem to attract many readers. Desperado also features Cheech Marin, Steve Buscemi, as the cantina owner who starts the story and Quentin Tarantino, as an obtuse man.
