Around the World in Eighty Days
This 1956 movie shows that one can circumnavigate the world in less than two days. Jules Verne, who wrote the tale “Around the World in 80 Days” in 1872 predicted that man would be able to complete the task in just eighty hours. However, most people consider it a folly today. It is enough to ensure that a train’s schedule matches the sailing schedule, which in turn meets the coach schedule. He takes the well-publicized wager of twenty thousand dollars sterling from fellow members of the London Reform Club, which he loses, and thereby he becomes financially bankrupt. Fogg is joined by Passepartout (a newly arrived Latin immigrant). Passepartout has a loyal, dedicated, and reliable valet. His unique skills could prove to be a major asset, however, his all-consuming thoughts about the other sex might distract him from the job at hand. Fogg may have not considered cultural delays that could occur along the route, even though he has taken into account certain delays in transportation. Fogg is not aware that Fix, a man named Fix, is following them. He could be causing Fogg to lose his task forever. Fogg and Passepartout get in one more misadventure as they continue on their quest. Fogg might find that other things are more important in life than winning the bet. –Huggo
