Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer
Based on real information about Dr. Kermit (played here by Earl Billings), who ran an abortion clinic in Philadelphia’s inner city for many decades, this police/courtroom drama was filmed. With the help of FBI and DEA agents, Philadelphia Police Detectives Wood and Stark (Alfonzo) raid the clinic in search for evidence that illegal prescription drug sales were taking place. The clinic was filthy, with bags full of aborted babies in the hallways and parts from fetal bodies kept in a fridge. They interview clinic staff and learn that they are administered anesthesia by non-trained nurses; one baby died from an overdose of anesthesia; some patients were given abortions on older babies; and Dr. Gosnell was able to cut the spinal cords for some infants. Detectives bring the bodies in bags to the Coroner, who then brings the matter to the attention Dan Molinari (Michael Beach). The murder case is taken to the attention of Sara Jane Morris, Assistant DA. They obtain a warrant and search Gosnell’s house for missing evidence. 2013: Gosnell is brought to trial by the DA’s Office on charges of murder. Gosnell hires Nick Searcy (who also directed the film), who defends Gosnell for performing a public service to minorities women. One of Gosnell’s younger assistants provides compelling testimony and photographs for the DA’s prosecution. Before delivering their verdict, the jury deliberates for ten days. –Judith O.
