There Will Be Blood

This presentation focuses on the interconnected lives of Eli Sunday and Daniel Plainview in California’s early 20th century. Daniel Plainview, a miner turned oilman is driven and will go to any lengths necessary to reach his goals. While he works hard, he is also a good steward of his fellow workers. H.W. is his business partner, but he actually “acquired”, when H.W. Daniel lost his biological father who was a single dad and worked on one of Daniels’ rigs. H.W. is a close friend to Daniel. H.W. is a treasure, even if it’s for the things he does. The partnership is enriched by H.W. Eli Sunday, one of a couple of twins, is the first to purchase Daniel’s family farm for its major oil deposits. Eli is a local preacher who also claims to be a faith healer. He wants to use the proceeds from the sale of his property for the financing of his church. As Daniel tries and sells oil from the property, Eli is attempting to buy all of the land surrounding it at low prices in order to construct a pipe to the coast. Eli is trying to establish his religious empire. –Huggo
