What’s Eating Gilbert Grape

The beautifully shot film What’s Eating Gibert Grape depicts tenderness, care and self-awareness in a fictional one-street town called Endora. The story centers around Amy Grape and her two siblings, Arnie and Gilbert. They, their widowed mother Bonnie Grape, and Arnie, their brother, struggle to co-exist in a world without a father figure and low-wage work. Arnie, 17, has a severe mental illness. Gilbert, a young and very lonely man, must constantly care for his brother Arnie while he works at the convenience store in the dying town. Gilbert is losing his life and his future. He knows it, but his bond and love for Arnie can’t and won’t be broken. This is when Becky, the spirit free of charge arrives in town. She and her grandmother find themselves stranded on the streets for a week as they wait for spare parts to their car. The realization brings new emotions, new thoughts, and new hope to Gibert. Gilbert Grape is something else. –Cinema_Fan
