Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
After a disastrous operation in Budapest (Hungary) during the Cold War, Control, British Intelligence’s head, resigns. Control believes that one of the four top officers in the intelligence service is a Russian agent, which makes the operation in Hungary a failed attempt to find out who it was. George Smiley (Gary Oldman), who had to retire due to the departure from Control, is asked by senior government officials to look into a tale told him by Ricky Tarr (Tom Hardy), which claimed that there was indeed a mole. Smiley believes that Operation Witchcraft’s continued success (a source of Soviet intelligence) and Hungary’s failures are proof of this and accepts the challenge of finding him. –David Brain
