The Ten Commandments (1956)

The infant Moses (Fraser C. Heston), a Hebrew boy, is taken to Egypt by Rameses I (Ian Keith), who has decreed that all Hebrew newborn males must be killed. Bithiah, the daughter of the Pharaoh (Nina Foch), saves him and brings him up at the court of Sethi (Sir Cedric Hartwicke). Sethi is enthralled by Moses (Charlton Heston), and he falls in love with Princess Nefretiri (Anne Baxter). Sethi also hates Sethi’s son Rameses II (Yul Brrynner). Moses, who is now aware of his Hebrew heritage, is expelled from Egypt and made his way through the desert to marry, have a child, and receives a commandment by God to go back to Egypt in order to liberate the Hebrews. Moses finds that his most formidable enemy in Egypt is not Rameses II but someone close to him who “can harden his heart”. Ron Kerrigan
