The Talented Mr. Ripley

The 1950s. Tom Ripley is a Manhattan lavatory attendant who borrows a Princeton jacket in order to play the piano at a party. Tom is approached by the father of a Princeton graduate and offered $1,000 to travel to Italy. This would convince Dickie Greenleaf that he will return to Princeton. Tom travels to Italy to be with Dickie and Marge. He pretends to love jazz, and harbours homoerotic dreams while he indulges in luxurious living. Tom lies, and his talents also include forgery and impressions. So when Dickie, a handsome, confident man, tires of Tom and dismisses him as boring, Tom takes extreme measures to make Greenleaf his privileges. —
