The Secret in Their Eyes

Benjamin Esposito, a retired Argentinian federal prosecutor, is currently writing a novel using an older closed case as his source material. This case concerns the murder and brutal rape of Liliana Koloto. Benjamin was not only affected by Ricardo Morales’ grief, but he, Pablo Sandoval and Irene Menendez Hastings, the newly appointed chief of department, were also personally affected. Pablo and Benjamin tracked down the killer and that is why Pablo has never been satisfied with the outcome. Pablo and Benjamin were able to confirm that Isidoro Gumez was the killer, despite the fact that there had been two suspects in the case. He is conscious that accuracy in historical context isn’t essential for his novel. However, the revisiting of the case for him is more about closure. He attempts to reach out to key characters in the case. Irene is still working in the justice department. This woman was always someone he felt attracted to, but he never followed due to their differences in ages and socioeconomic status. Another problem is Gomez’s still-at-large status, with no one knowing if he is dead or alive. Pablo said at that time that passion was one of the things that can’t be changed. Benjamin now knows that this premise is still true. –Huggo
