The Princess Diaries
Mia Thermopolis is Anne Hathaway’s average teenage girl. She’s sweet and a bit geeky and almost invisible to her parents, Lilly Matarazzo (Heather Matarazzo), and Michael Schwartzman (Robert Schwartzman). Mia struggles to make it through high school. So it is not surprising that her grandmother Queen Clarisse Renaldi, Dame Julie Andrews, shows up unexpectedly and informs her calmly that she is the heir of Genovia’s throne. Mia suddenly finds her life engulfed in chaos. To become the perfect princess, Mia is being trained in scarves and waves. Joe, her tough-looking, but sweet, bodyguard, and driver for the limo, gives her a complete makeover. When the media grabs the story, things get out of control and Mia suddenly finds herself in the news. Mia must make a decision. Genovia’s Independence Day Ball will help her decide if she wants to give up her claim to the throne, or if she would rather be the Princess and heir of the throne that her grandfather (Rene Auberjonois) and father Philippe Renaldi (Rene Auberjonois) want her to be. –LadyN1
