The More You Ignore Me
Jo Brand’s novel The More You Ignore Me, is the basis of this comedy-comedy drama. It focuses on the lives of a quirky family living in rural England, 1980s. Gina is a young woman who struggles to love her husband and mother. When Gina becomes obsessed with the local weatherman, things get worse. This leads to her being admitted to a nearby mental hospital. As she grows up, Alice, the daughter of her mother, struggles with relationships with her mum. She eventually comes up with an idea to reconnect, which causes havoc and brings the entire family to its knees. The more you ignore me, set to The Smiths’ songs, offers a humorous, but sometimes very serious, glimpse into the life of this family, while also addressing the impact mental health problems have on their families. –AnonymousB
