The Lighthouse (2019)

The foghorn’s squealing sound fills the air as Ephraim Winslow (an ex-lumberjack) and Thomas Wake (a lighthouse keeper), set foot on a remote, greyish islet just off the coast in New England. The men, who have to deal with irritating idiosyncrasies and simmering resentment and growing hatred, will be forced to work hard for the next four weeks. A furious, unending storm maroons pale beacon keepers within the volcanic rock. This creates the conditions for prolonged periods of wild hunger, excruciating pain, manic isolation and terrible booze-addled visions. The eerie grip of madness tightens. Can there be escape from this prison-like mind? –Nick Riganas
