The Laws of Thermodynamics
Manel, a neurotic scientist from Barcelona, Catalonia (northern Spain) is obsessed with the notion that thermodynamics’ three laws rule all of life. He writes a thesis while working as a teacher assistant at the university. He ends his happy relationship with Raquel, his longtime girlfriend. Manel ends his relationship with Raquel, and begins dating Elena. Pablo is also starting to date Eva. While Pablo and Eva have a casual relationship, they do not get engaged. Manel and Elena live an idyllic romance story. But when things start to go sour, Manel’s neurosis and compulsive behavior frustrate Elena. Eva breaks up with Manel and spends the rest of their time trying to get her back. Pablo is injured in an accident while riding on a double-decker bus at a party. He was trying to rescue Eva. Talking with real scientists who explain science and how it affects the universe, from the Big Bang to the present, is interspersed in the movie. Pablo asks himself questions after he realizes Eva is pregnant. Manel also questions if he will be able to restore Elena’s life or if thermodynamics will prevent him from reconciling with Elena. –Chockys
