The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Martin, 16, lost his father at the hospital operating table when he was just 16 years old. Gradually, an emotional bond develops between Martin and Dr Steven Murphy, who is a respected cardiothoracic surgeon. Although Dr Steven’s family is initially generous with gifts, and later an invitation to dinner, the teenager will quickly be accepted by them. However, there’s a vague but unnerving feeling that overshadows Martin’s genuine intentions. Then, suddenly, Dr Steven’s idyllic family will be smashed by an inhumane punishment. At the same time everything will begin to fall apart and the innocents must suffer. The sins of one person can burden the whole family. Only an inexplicable, unrepentant decision, which requires a complete sacrifice, will be able to purge the soul. To find catharsis one has to first confess the sin. –Nick Riganas
