The Details
Jeff Lang, a doctor in King County Washington has been married for ten year to Nealy Lang. They have one child. Rebecca Mazzoni and Peter Mazzoni are their best friends. Rebecca studied in medical school with Jeff. Jeff plans to sod his yard, but the grass has worms under it and the raccoons eat his grass during the night. Jeff also wants to build a second room for his son. However, the City Hall has blocked the project. Jeff builds the room with no approval. He also gives his neighbor Lila (Laura Linney), a lovely plant. She lives next to Matthew and hopes that her neighbors won’t denounce him for the work he did. Jeff enjoys playing basketball with Lincoln, his friend who is suffering from a kidney disease and requires hemodialysis. Nealy, who hasn’t had sex for six months due to the disturbances by the raccoons, is now disturbed by Jeff. Jeff plans to poison Nealy and meets Rebecca for sex to relieve his bitterness over his sexless marriage. They end up having sex at Rebecca’s house. Jeff discovers a better job for Lincoln, as a teacher coach. He also learns his friend is going to die very soon. Jeff is close to breaking down when Peter learns his wife has betrayed Jeff. Matthew is poisoned accidentally by Jeff, and Lila seduces and has sex with him. Jeff donates one of his kidneys in order to save his friend’s life. However, while he recovers from surgery, he discovers that Lila has been pregnant. He comments on his life with Lincoln.
