John Winger realizes that his life is in dire straits after a bad day. He convinces Russell Ziskey (who is also having a hard time) to join the army. They are two out of many misfits in their platoon’s basic training. It is John, however, who is always at odds with Sergeant Hulka, their drill sergeant. Stella and Louise are two of their saving graces. They have these MPs to help them get out of trouble. The entire platoon could be in danger of not graduating. Their entire platoon is sent to basic to be tested the EM-50 urban assault vehicle. Russell and John decide to drive the EM-50 to see Stella and Louise, who were reassigned from West Germany. The rest of Hulka and Hulka’s direct superior, Captain Stillman (self-absorbed), are caught behind communist lines in Czechoslovakia. With Stella, Louise, and John, Russell will need to prove their worth as US soldiers. They’ll also have to test the capabilities and capability of the EM-50 in order to save their platoon. The rest of the US military won’t know what is happening and so they’ll be unable to provide any help beyond their own. –Huggo
