Spirited Away
Chihiro is dismayed to learn that Chihiro’s parents and Chihiro are moving to a tiny Japanese village in the country. Chihiro’s dad makes an error on the road to their new house and takes a one-lane, lonely route that ends in front of tunnel. The parents stop their car to explore the surrounding area. The tunnel leads them to an abandoned amusement park at the end of the tunnel. It has its own small town. Her parents discover a great restaurant that smells delicious but has no staff. They decide to pay later. Chihiro, however refuses to eat at the restaurant and instead decides to go to the park to see more. Haku, a boy she meets, tells Chihiro that her parents and Chihiro are in serious danger and must flee immediately. Her parents are now pigs, she discovers when she runs to the restaurant. The theme park also turns out to have demons and spirits. The town’s center is home to a spa where the creatures can relax. Yubaba is an evil witch who intends to keep all the trespassers captive workers. In the hope of returning home, Chihiro will have to rely upon Haku for her safety. –Zachary Harper
